  • Balmoral School of Piping and Drumming \ July 5-10, 2009 \ North Central College in Naperville, IL (nearby Chicago). LEARN FROM CHAMPIONS!  Our instructors include: Brian Donaldson, former Pipe Major Scots-Guards, army instructor, and Scottish multiple prize-winning competitor; Alasdair Gillies, former Pipe-Major, Queens Own Highlanders, army instructor, International multiple prize-winning competitor ; Adrian Melvin, Pipe-Sergeant Midlothian Scottish Pipe Band, professional instructor, formerly with several Scottish Grade I pipe bands, award-winning soloist; Jim Sim, veteran Scottish drumming instructor, Drum Sergeant, Midlothian Scottish Pipe Band, multiple award-winner.  The Balmoral School provides high quality musical instruction for beginning, intermediate, and advanced students in small classes (up to five students). The classes are oriented toward improving technique, musicality, and tone; instrument maintenance; and the teaching of new tunes and the polishing of existing tunes. Beginner and intermediate classes cover music fundamentals, such as rhythm, tempo, tuning, and tone production, as well as, execution and expression. Advanced students can elect to train and study for performances of their tune sets at major competitions in North America and Scotland. Free instructors’ recital Thursday evening.   • Drumnastics: World Class Drumming Instruction Every Month in the MidWest

    Drumnastics is a once monthly snare drumming workshop that will be held in the Chicagoland area. This workshop features a four hour session on rudiments, exercises, technique, cleanliness, and expression for the price of $35. The workshop is appropriate for drummers of all skill levels. Instruction will be provided by world renowned snare drummer Carl Lenny. The next workshop is scheduled for January 31st, 2008 and will be repeated again until the competition season. Bands are encouraged to enroll their entire snare line for this amazing opportunity to work with the best and play like the best. This month, private lessons will be available after the group session for $25. To sign up for the workshop please contact Carl Lenny at 312-532-1752. The workshop will be hosted at the Scottish Home in North Riverside, IL on Saturday January 31st from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
